Rebel Wolves, the studio formed by former CD Projekt Red developers, is charting a distinct path for its debut dark fantasy RPG. While many expected the upcoming vampire title to simply iterate on the template of past open-world Polish epics, CEO Konrad Tomaszkiewicz recently clarified that the core structure of the game is drawing from a very different classic: the original Fallout games.

A Narrative Sandbox Inspired by Classic Fallout

In a recent interview with Polish business outlet PAP Biznes, Tomaszkiewicz highlighted that The Blood of Dawnwalker is designed as a “narrative sandbox.” Rather than offering a traditional linear progression with branch-off dialogues, the developers want players to dictate their own routes to the credits.

This design philosophy mirrors the open-ended nature of classic Fallout titles, where players could approach quests, factions, and the overall ending through vastly different methodologies. How this sandbox design will interact with the game’s vampire mechanics remains to be seen, but it signals that the title will be heavily focused on player autonomy. This expands on what we already know about how choice-driven the campaign is expected to be.

Rising Wishlists and Franchise Ambitions

The anticipation for Rebel Wolves’ debut is growing rapidly. The studio confirmed that The Blood of Dawnwalker has reached nearly 1.5 million wishlists on Steam ahead of its scheduled September launch.

A successful launch is critical for the independent studio, as they hope to use the initial profits to fund sequels immediately. The developers have previously teased ambitious sequel plans that could span centuries, taking the vampire saga to different global settings. To keep players engaged after they finish the main story, the team has also promised a consumer-friendly post-launch DLC strategy featuring smaller, free add-ons.

Community Concerns Over PC Performance

Despite the excitement, hardware enthusiasts are raising eyebrows at rumored PC system requirements. Some community members on Reddit have expressed concern over reportedly steep CPU requirements, with rumors suggesting that a high-end processor like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D might be required for optimal performance even at 1080p.

These performance worries remain community-reported and are not yet confirmed by official developers. However, they highlight a growing anxiety about next-gen optimization in dense urban areas, a challenge that many modern RPGs have struggled to overcome.

Ultimately, The Blood of Dawnwalker is shaping up to be much more than a simple spiritual successor vs The Witcher 3. By combining player freedom with a dark, gothic sandbox, Rebel Wolves is aiming to deliver a distinct flavor of roleplaying when the game releases later this year.
