Rebel Wolves Seeks Animation Talent to Polish The Blood of Dawnwalker After Gameplay Backlash

Rebel Wolves is hiring an animation programmer for The Blood of Dawnwalker after players criticized the stiff animations in the latest gameplay preview.

The road to launch has encountered some turbulence for Rebel Wolves. Following the release of an eight-minute gameplay sequence showcasing protagonist Coen before his vampire transformation, players have voiced concerns regarding the visual fluidity of the combat. While the preview highlighted promising tomb exploration and investigation mechanics, the actual movement quality has received harsh feedback, raising questions about whether the game warrants its premium pricing.

In what appears to be a direct response to these concerns, a new job listing reveals that the studio is actively looking to reinforce its technical art department.

The Search for Animation Polish

A public job listing has appeared on the Polish game industry board Skillshot, showing that Rebel Wolves is hiring an Animation Programmer. According to the listing, the role will focus on implementing and refining animation systems within their engine.

For a studio comprised largely of former CD Projekt Red developers, animation quality is under immense scrutiny. The timing of this hire suggests that while core systems are locked in, the team is entering a critical polish phase to address the clunkiness observed in the recent build.

Many community members on Reddit expect that the footage shown in the recent preview was recorded from an older build, possibly dating back several months. If so, a dedicated animation programmer could bridge the gap between raw motion capture data and the actual in-game responsiveness before the September release.

Legacy of the Sword Master

The concern over animation quality is particularly notable given the pedigree involved in the project. The swordplay for Coen is performed by Maciej Kwiatkowski, the motion capture actor who brought Geralt of Rivia to life in The Witcher 3.

While Kwiatkowski’s expertise in historical fencing styles is expected to shape the foundation of the combat, translating those physical performances into responsive gameplay systems requires substantial backend engineering. The new programming role points to where the bottleneck might lie—not in the quality of the motion capture itself, but in how the game engine handles transitions and collision feedback.

Growing Competition in September

Rebel Wolves is running out of time to smooth out these rough edges. The competitive landscape for action RPGs has shifted with the news that Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword is releasing 21 days earlier than anticipated. This shift places it in direct competition for the attention of players looking for dark, sword-focused combat.

With only two months left before launch, the pressure is on the development team to ensure that the final build of Vale Sangora feels as good to play as it does to explore.
